Oil to butter
1 ÷ 0.80 = 1.25, based directly on butter's approximate fat content.
The ratio, properly explained
The practical oil-to-butter multiplier is 1.25 because butter is about 80% fat. The commonly copied 1.333 figure comes from inverting 0.75 rather than balancing fat.
Oil to butter: multiply by 1.25. Butter to oil: use 0.80 for a reversible fat match or 0.75 as the familiar shortcut.

What matters in the kitchen
1 ÷ 0.80 = 1.25, based directly on butter's approximate fat content.
100 g butter carries about 80 g fat, so 80 g oil is the exact reverse by weight.
That number is 1 ÷ 0.75, an inversion of a rounded shortcut rather than a composition-based formula.
